While men's shoes don't nearly take up as much room in the closet as their female counterparts, every guy should have at least four different types of shoes to cover all the occasions that life may present. After all, you can't just wear sneakers to everything can you?

When shopping for their shoe wardrobe, men need to consider the different aspects of their life and what different occasions may call for. While there may be a certain type of shoe that they wear predominately, they may need to consider other types for those special occasions. Here are four different types of shoes that every man should have in his closet:

Casual Shoes

Everyone needs a casual shoe that's not quite a sneaker but is pretty comfortable and not too dressy. This is a shoe you my way to the movies, or out to a casual restaurant. Some kinds of shoes that fall into this category include boat shoes and loafers but there are dozens of different varieties that you find it by walking through any shopping mall.

Sports Shoes

Even if you don't play sports, you probably have a great pair of sports shoes or sneakers that you wear most of the time. After all they're comfortable and go great with jeans. However, exercise is important for your overall health so you do want to consider getting a good pair of sneakers that you can use for walking or running or maybe team sports like basketball. Depending on the different sport you are going to do, you need a different type of shoe so you want to enlist the aid of the salespeople at the sports shoe store in order to make sure you get the proper shoe for your sport.

Dress Shoes

Probably the least purchased type of men's shoes are dress shoes. Most guys think that they can get by with just casual shoes and sneakers but eventually the occasion comes up when you need a good dressy pair of shoes. Dress shoes are a necessity for weddings and funerals as well as important business meetings.

Boots

Boots can be fun or functional and you might want to get a pair of both! Western-style boots can be worn on either casual or dressy occasions and are perfect if you like to go line dancing. If you like to do your own carpentry projects around the house, you'll need a good pair of work boots to make sure your feet don't get injured on the job. If you like to go hiking and mountain climbing then you'll need boots suited for that occasion. If you live in an area where it snows in the winter then you need winter boots to be able to keep your traction in the snow.

There are almost as many styles and types of men's shoes as there are of women's shoes but these four basic types are what any well-dressed man should have. Of course, you don't need to stick to just four pairs of shoes you can go out and buy as many as you want!
